FAQ & Policies

Real answers from Kenisha — the same prep and aftercare advice she gives every client in the suite.

Prep & Aftercare

How do I prepare for a wax?
  • You can wax on your period — a tampon or cup is fine.
  • Exfoliate a few days before — dead skin traps hair underneath.
  • Wear loose clothing to your appointment to avoid irritation.
  • Hair should be at least a grain of rice long (2–3 weeks of growth).
  • Take an ibuprofen 30 minutes before, if needed.
What's the aftercare?
  • It's completely normal to sweat during your wax.
  • Avoid the gym or sex for 24–48 hours after — this can cause excess irritation.
  • Follow up with proper aftercare products for 2–3 weeks.
  • No tanning or hot showers immediately after your appointment.
How long until I need to come back?

Most clients rebook every 4–6 weeks. Hair needs about 2–3 weeks of growth for the wax to grip properly — the longer you stay consistent, the sparser and softer regrowth becomes.

How long should hair be before any waxing service?

About a grain of rice long — roughly 2–3 weeks of growth for most areas. Shorter than that and the wax can't grip properly; longer is fine, we can always trim. This is the one rule that applies across every service on the menu.

I'm on Accutane or a retinoid — can I still get waxed?

Mention it when you book. Accutane and strong retinoids thin the skin and make it more prone to tearing or irritation during waxing, so many estheticians ask clients to pause waxing while on these medications (often for several months after stopping, too). Tell us what you're using and we'll figure out the safest plan together.

How do I prevent ingrown hairs between appointments?

Gentle exfoliation two or three times a week, starting a few days after your appointment, is the single biggest thing that helps. Keep the area moisturized, and avoid tight synthetic fabrics that trap sweat and friction against freshly waxed skin.

Can I tan or use self-tanner before my appointment?

Skip it. Self-tanner sits on top of the skin and interferes with the wax's grip, and freshly waxed skin is more sun-sensitive, so sunbathing or tanning beds right before or after a wax aren't a good pairing. Wait at least 24 hours after your appointment before tanning of any kind.

Good to Know

Does it hurt?

Less than you think. We use premium hard wax designed for sensitive skin, work quickly, and talk you through every step. Most first-timers say the anticipation was worse than the wax.

What's your cancellation policy?

Life happens — just give us 24 hours' notice to reschedule or cancel. Late cancellations and no-shows may forfeit their deposit, since your slot is reserved just for you.

How do you keep things clean?

Hospital-grade hygiene, every visit: fresh tools per client, zero double-dipping, and a fully sanitized suite between appointments.

Do you accept walk-ins, or is it appointment-only?

Appointment-only. Waxed OC is a private one-suite studio with one client at a time, so every visit is booked in advance online — no waiting room, no overlap with other clients, and your slot is genuinely reserved for you.

Is a deposit required to book?

Some appointments require a deposit to hold your slot, which is why late cancellations and no-shows may forfeit it — the suite is reserved just for you at that time. Details are confirmed when you book.

Is Waxed OC licensed?

Yes — every appointment is performed personally by Kenisha Yvette, a licensed, Barbicide-certified esthetician. No rotating staff and no trainees; the person who waxes you is the same person licensed to do it.

Can I bring a friend or my kids with me?

The suite fits one client at a time, so it's best to come solo if you can — it keeps the space private and calm for your appointment. If you need to bring someone, just mention it when you book so we can plan around it.

Is waxing better than other hair removal methods?

For lasting smoothness, yes. Shaving only cuts hair at the surface, so stubble is back within a day or two, and depilatory creams work similarly while irritating a lot of skin types. Waxing pulls hair out from the root, so regrowth takes weeks instead of days — and with the Starpil sensitive-skin hard wax used at Waxed OC, it's a genuinely gentle hair removal option even for skin that reacts badly to blades or chemical creams.

Do you offer waxing for sensitive skin?

Every service at Waxed OC uses Starpil sensitive-skin hard wax specifically because it grips the hair instead of the skin — a real difference if you've had bad reactions to strip wax or razors elsewhere. If you're especially reactive or have a skin condition, mention it when you book so Kenisha can plan around it.
