Know before you glow
How do I prepare for a wax?
- You can wax on your period — a tampon or cup is fine.
- Exfoliate a few days before — dead skin traps hair underneath.
- Wear loose clothing to your appointment to avoid irritation.
- Hair should be at least a grain of rice long (2–3 weeks of growth).
- Take an ibuprofen 30 minutes before, if needed.
What's the aftercare?
- It's completely normal to sweat during your wax.
- Avoid the gym or sex for 24–48 hours after — this can cause excess irritation.
- Follow up with proper aftercare products for 2–3 weeks.
- No tanning or hot showers immediately after your appointment.
How long until I need to come back?
Most clients rebook every 4–6 weeks. Hair needs about 2–3 weeks of growth for the wax to grip properly — the longer you stay consistent, the sparser and softer regrowth becomes.
How long should hair be before any waxing service?
About a grain of rice long — roughly 2–3 weeks of growth for most areas. Shorter than that and the wax can't grip properly; longer is fine, we can always trim. This is the one rule that applies across every service on the menu.
I'm on Accutane or a retinoid — can I still get waxed?
Mention it when you book. Accutane and strong retinoids thin the skin and make it more prone to tearing or irritation during waxing, so many estheticians ask clients to pause waxing while on these medications (often for several months after stopping, too). Tell us what you're using and we'll figure out the safest plan together.
How do I prevent ingrown hairs between appointments?
Gentle exfoliation two or three times a week, starting a few days after your appointment, is the single biggest thing that helps. Keep the area moisturized, and avoid tight synthetic fabrics that trap sweat and friction against freshly waxed skin.
Can I tan or use self-tanner before my appointment?
Skip it. Self-tanner sits on top of the skin and interferes with the wax's grip, and freshly waxed skin is more sun-sensitive, so sunbathing or tanning beds right before or after a wax aren't a good pairing. Wait at least 24 hours after your appointment before tanning of any kind.
