Your first Brazilian: what actually happens

  1. Step 1 · Settle in

You arrive, you're shown into a private suite (yours alone — this is a one-client-at-a-time studio), and you undress from the waist down. There's a fresh-draped table, a towel, and zero ceremony about it. Kenisha has seen it all and reacts to none of it.

  2. Step 2 · The wax itself

The wax itself is Starpil sensitive-skin hard wax, warmed low and applied in sections. Hard wax grips the hair, not your skin — which is why it hurts dramatically less than the strip-wax horror stories you've heard. Each section is one quick pull, a breath, and on to the next. You'll be mid-sentence about your weekend plans when you realize the front is already done.

  3. Step 3 · The back — and done

The back — yes, everything means everything — takes about ninety seconds and is genuinely the easiest part. A quick tweeze of any stragglers, a soothing post-wax oil, and you're dressed and out the door in about an hour, wondering what you were so nervous about.

Prep like a pro (and what to skip after)

  • Grow it out: hair needs to be at least a grain of rice long — about 2–3 weeks after your last shave. The wax has to have something to hold onto.
  • Exfoliate a few days before, not the day of. Dead skin traps hair underneath and makes the wax work harder.
  • Wear loose clothing to your appointment. Your skin will thank you on the drive home.
  • On your period? Totally fine — a tampon or cup and nobody will ever know.
  • Afterward: skip the gym, hot tubs, tanning, and, yes, sex for 24–48 hours. Friction and fresh follicles are not friends.

How long does a Brazilian wax last?

You'll be glass-smooth for about two weeks, with soft regrowth appearing in weeks three and four. Most clients rebook every 4–6 weeks — and here's the part your razor never gave you: the longer you stay consistent, the sparser and finer the regrowth gets. Wax number four is a genuinely different experience from wax number one.

Brazilian vs. bikini

Not sure the full everything-goes is your speed? Fair. Here's the honest map of the two services, because no one should have to guess from a price list.

Service What comes off Best for Price
The Signature Brazilian Everything — front, back, and between Fully bare, lowest-maintenance smooth $65
Bikini Sides, top, and as much of the front as you want; the back stays put Bare-ish with your choice of shape $30
  • Want the front customized but the back left alone? That's the bikini wax.
Make it a double
Underarm waxing spa treatment, San Juan Capistrano

The most popular add-on to a Brazilian, by a mile: underarm waxing. It's $20, tacked onto the same appointment while you're already on the table, and retires your razor on a second front in the same visit.

The Fine Print

Good questions, honest answers

Honestly — how much does a Brazilian wax hurt?

Less than the anticipation, and we say that with a straight face. Starpil hard wax is designed for sensitive skin and grips hair rather than skin, each pull lasts under a second, and Kenisha works fast and talks you through every step. Most first-timers' actual review: 'Oh. That was it?'

Can I get a Brazilian wax on my period?

Yes — just wear a tampon or cup and carry on as normal. Skin can be slightly more sensitive that week, so if you're a first-timer with flexible plans, some clients prefer to book the week after. Entirely your call.

Can I get waxed while pregnant?

Generally yes — many clients wax right up to their due date, and hard wax is the gentlest option for it. Skin is more sensitive during pregnancy, so mention it when you book, and check with your doctor if you're unsure.

How far in advance should I stop shaving before a Brazilian wax?

Stop 2–3 weeks out — hair needs to reach about a grain of rice long for the wax to grip cleanly. If it's shorter than that, the wax has nothing to hold onto and pulls less effectively, so a little patience up front makes the whole appointment smoother.

Is redness or irritation after a Brazilian wax normal?

Yes, a little pinkness right after is completely normal — the follicles have just been cleared out, and it typically calms down within a few hours. Aftercare oil helps, and steering clear of tight clothing and friction for the rest of the day speeds it along.

Will my hair grow back thinner if I keep getting Brazilian waxes?

For most clients, yes. Waxing pulls hair from the root instead of cutting it at the surface, so with consistent 4–6 week visits, regrowth tends to come in finer, sparser, and softer over time — the opposite of what shaving trains hair to do.
